How odd to finally have some idea of how a dish gets its name. Here in the southern United States, we have an old (I mean like 1700's old) dish called Chicken Country Captain... it's a curry dish. Which if you know anything about the US - curry isn't something that comes naturally. There are rumors and guesses how it came to be - but no one really knows.

I believe we finally have a decided origin! Thanks so much for sharing!

My understanding of the name was that it was prepared for the Captain of a boat by the ship's cook, and because the Captain was European, it was a milder version of a chicken curry.
